Front Drop off/pick up Zone:
Thank you all for your efforts in helping us provide a safe drop off/pick up zone at the front of the school. If you are new to this, you are learning quickly and if you are a veteran of this, you are doing great! Three things to keep in mind:
- If your child needs assistance getting out of or into your vehicle, please park in a designated parking stall in the east or west parking lot and walk them to the door or walk to the pickup zone at the front of the school to get them. Exiting your vehicle in the front zone causes backups and delays and is unsafe.
- If you don't want to go through the front loop to pick up your student, you will need to park and walk up to the front of the building to collect your children. Children should not be walking through the parking lot without an adult.
- In addition, after school, please do not park along the street and walk through the front pick up zone to get your child - the front loop should be pedestrian free.
Notes through the office:
Please make sure your child knows how they are getting home after school. We understand that this can change unexpectedly during the day, but it is not feasible for the office to pass this information on to your student on a daily basis.
Dress Code:
- Clothing/grooming should be clean, neat and modest
- Shirts should have sleeves. No tank tops, bare midriffs, off the shoulder tops, or cut out backs.
- Shorts & skirts should be at or close to the knee.
- No hats/head coverings for boys or girls of any kind (excluding winter hats outside).
- No flip-flops or loose footwear - appropriate footwear should be worn because of PE and recess. No roller-type shoes.
- No gang-related items, grooming, or clothing
- No clothing displaying in appropriate messages or symbols
- No pajamas except on school-sponsored "Pajama Days"
School Lunch:
- Breakfast $1.40
- Lunch $2.05
- Milk .40 cents
Lunch payments can be made online through www.ezschoolpay.com or in the school office with cash or check.
To apply for free/reduced go to www.ezmealapp.com
*Breakfast starts at 8:40am when the front doors open
Student Cellular Device Procedure:
Elementary Schools K-6
- Elementary students' cellular devices, including wearable devices (i.e. AirPods, smart watches, Gabb watches, etc.) must be turned off from the first bell, and remain off until the last bell during school hours.
- Communication with parents/guardians will be facilitated through the teacher or the central office of the school.
- Wearable cellular devices may be worn as long as they do not create a distraction or disruption during school hours.
- Students who choose to bring cellular devices to school do so at their own risk. The school district assumes NO LIABILITY for lost, stolen or damaged devices.
Principal Amott:
Dear Mountainside Families,
We are eight days into school, and it is wonderful having our students and teachers back! Thank you for
being patient with us as we’ve figured out which bus students should be riding and where students should
be going. To keep you informed regarding school safety, each newsletter will include information
regarding safety and steps we are taking to keep our school safe.
What’s Happening at Mountainside?
4th and 5th grade students have the opportunity to sign up for orchestra this year. If you are interested in
having your child sign up, please refer to the handout that was sent home or visit
www.mountainweststrings.com for more information.
We also have some important dates to put on your calendar.
-September 15-18 will be our PTA Kindness Week. We will have lots of fun activities to celebrate and
encourage kindness and friendship that week.
-Wednesday, September 17 will be our Acadience assessment day. Please have your child to school on
time that day to ensure they don’t miss their assessment time.
-Thursday, September 18 is our school picture day. Information will be coming home about placing orders
for school pictures.
-Monday, September 29 will be our annual STEAM Fest. This is a FUN night of science, technology,
engineering, and math activities. We will have food trucks on site if you would like to get dinner or a treat
as well. We look forward to seeing you there!
Safety
We will have our first fire drill this week. Our law enforcement and fire departments have instructed schools
that when a fire alarm is heard, teachers should check the halls for students, then shut and lock their doors
and wait for instructions. If necessary, an evacuation of the school may be issued. We know this is different
from how we want students to respond to a fire alarm at home. Please discuss with your child that when
they are at home, they should escape the home safely. Please use the following link to learn more about
safety in Cache County schools https://www.ccsdut.org/Page/7889
School Community Council
Our first School Community Council meeting will be held on Monday, September 8 at 3:45 in the library.
Our council members were elected last spring and over the summer. Anyone is welcome to attend the
meetings. The school community council meets once a month to discuss student data, review student
safety, and help make financial decisions for the school. If you would like something brought up regarding
one of these topics at our meeting, please email me at cameron.amott@ccsdut.org
School Apparel
I am working with Great Basin Graphics to get our website up and running so that anyone who would like
to order a school shirt or other apparel may do so. As soon as the website is working, I will share a link and
instructions with everyone on how to make those orders.
Thank you for the privilege of teaching your remarkable children. It truly does take a village to raise a child
and we are honored to be a part of that village.
In Partnership,
Principal Cam Amott

QUICK HELPS FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS
How to see what books you have checked out from the school library:
- Step 1 - Find Destiny Discover. Download the “Destiny Discover” app or go to destinydiscover.com on a computer.
- Step 2 - Find our school. Select your location (Utah). Then select your district. Cache County School District appears as Cache County School. District, Hyrum, UT. Click this. Then select school's in Cache County School and search for Mountainside.
- Step 3 - Log in. Login for students is the same one they use to log in to Chromebooks at school (username is the student’s unique 7 letter ID; Password is an alphanumeric code that usually follows this pattern: Ab123456). After you log in once, you will stay logged in until you log out. Contact your school teacher, computer teacher or librarian for password help.
How to access SORA (OverDrive CCSD) at home: (read ebooks and listen to audiobooks)
- Step 1 - Find Sora. Download the “Sora, by OverDrive” app or go to soraapp.com on a computer.
- Step 2 - Select your library. Our district’s setup code is “cacheut” or start typing the name of our school or district
- Step 3 - Log in. The login for Mountainside students is the same one they use to log in to Chromebooks at school (username is the student’s unique 7 letter ID). For middle and high school students, it will differ as they can change their passwords. Contact your school teacher, computer teacher or librarian for password help.

- Rank
- Relationship to the student
Thank you for helping us recognize and celebrate the sacrifices made by our
veterans. We look forward to seeing you there.

Principal Amott:
Mountainside Families,
Fall is upon us, and I can’t think of a more beautiful place to be than at Mountainside this time of year.
Thank you to everyone who was able to come and support our STEAM Fest on Monday! We love any
chance we have to bring the community together at the school!
October is a month FULL of events and activities at Mountainside. We have parent-teacher conferences
this Thursday and Friday (Oct. 2nd and 3rd).
Next week is our fall break. There will be no school on Thursday or Friday (Oct. 9th and 10th).
We cap it all off with Halloween on Friday, October 31st . Students are welcome to wear costumes to
school. We ask that students not wear masks, bring weapons or other props with their costumes, or
wear costumes that are excessively scary or gory. It is also important that students be able to get in and
out of their costumes independently.
There is a safety concern I would love your help with correcting. We have a handful of parents parking
on the road across from the parent pick-up loop and walking through the loop to collect their kids, and
then walking back through the loop with their kids to their vehicle. We kindly ask that if you would like
to walk over to collect your child that you park in the parking lots east or west of the school and walk to
the front of the school. We have had close calls in the past of kids running into the pick-up loop to meet
parents and narrowly missed being hit. We will continue to kindly educate families about parent pickup,
and we would love your help with correcting this one thing.
Speaking of safety, in September, we practiced our Hold safety protocol. A Hold is initiated when we
need the hallways to be clear. Students are brought into their classrooms with the doors locked, but the
class continues as normal. A Hold is different from a Lockdown in that with a Lockdown, classroom
doors are locked, lights are turned off, and students move out of sight. In the past, we have initiated a
Hold protocol at Mountainside when students have received emergency medical services. We will be
practicing a fire drill and evacuation this month.
It has been a great first month of school. Thank you for everything you do at home to support your
child’s education and make school a success!
Have a Spooktacular October,
Cam Amott
Principal
