- School Community Council video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59JieblXXXA
Watched the training video located at the link listed, explaining the purposes of school community councils.
Mr. Cam Amott
- Strategic Learning Plan: Cam presented the plan Larry Jeppesen from school board
presented last year. The school district's mission is to "educate students for success in a changing world." Their vision is to "provide a safe, comprehensive, high-quality educational experience." For elementary students, the academic goal is to have each student reading on grade level by the end of third grade.
- SCC on School Website: Cam showed the council where to find information about SCC
on the school website.
- Review School Improvement Plan and TSSA: Reviewed goals and funding in School Improvement Plan and TSSA plan. The plan will be accessible on the school website.
.
- IReady Math Data: Due to COVID, many students have fallen behind in math. This
program will be used this year to track math skills based on their end-of-chapter tests. The Beginning of Year (BOY) data shows 53% of students are 1 grade below grade level. The goal is to get students back to grade level by the end of the year. Federal funds have been given to help with this programs will be run before and after school to help students who are behind. The after-school program will run from 3:35 to 4:30, starts September 7 and will be open for any students who need help with homework. The before-school program will be by invitation (and siblings) and will start September 11, running from 8:15 to 8:40. This is for students who need specific help and requires registration to attend.
Other Concerns/Open Forum
- 100 E 200 N safety issue: Amy Garbe reported that the safety issues at 100 E 200 N
were taken to Mendon City Council. They voted to stripe the intersection, which has been completed, and install signs to not allow parking along the east side of the road at the intersection around the time school dismisses. The signs have not been installed yet. Amy will check again to see when that will happen. KaDee asked about a crossing guard. That was talked about at the city council, but no decision was made by the council.
- COVID: It was asked how many cases there were at the school. Right now there is 1
student and 1 faculty.
- Bike riding along west sidewalk: KaDee asked about the rule to have students walk
their bikes along the west sidewalk. There had been problems with students riding bikes almost hitting walking kids on this sidewalk. Because of this, all students have been asked to get off their bikes at the start of the sidewalk and walk their bikes to the bike rack.
Returned to Item #1 SCC Membership. A motion was made by Larissa Swasey to accept the faculty members as proposed, 2nd by Brittny Amott, voting all in favor.
Motion to adjourn at 4:40 by KaDee Rawlinson, 2nd by KaCee John. Voting all in favor.

Larry Jepson School board member:
Introduced self. Retired school district employee. Passionate about children’s education. Encourages us to send him or our legislators stories and examples of how additional funding has helped students in our area.
Before and after school program:
Thriving. Highest numbers in the district currently. Grateful for Ms. Taylor and Ms. Amott’s hard work establishing the program at Mountainside.
Trina Apendaile: Snow removal on back sidewalk. Help ensure kids are able to utilize walk in the winter instead of snow being plowed into a pile there. Principle Amott mentioned that snow removal services is still being bided out and will discuss snow placement when snow removal individuals are contracted.

Mr. Cam Amott
- Acadience Winter Data: Our goal was to have 5% of students who started below benchmarch to improve. Actual growth for the school was 6.3%, exceeding our goal. 2. Student well-being: With the Tik-Tok challenge right before Christmas break, Mr. Amott felt it was important to talk about what is being done to assess students’ well-being and help those who are having problems. Three times a year teachers are assessing students on emotional, internal and external areas to see how they are managing. This helps identify students that might otherwise be under the radar. Struggling students are referred to the counselor, Ms. Ranee. This gives a greater understanding of how students are coping with issues.
- Trustland budget update: Percent remaining is 64%, most having gone to ParaPros. Right on track for the year.
- Snow removal concerns: Mr. Amott checked about moving snow off the sidewalk running along the west of the west parking lot. The field beyond the sidewalk does not belong to the school, so snow cannot be pushed beyond. He checked on having it removed. It would cost $190 per hour for the dump truck and loader, probably for 3-4 hours each time. The district was not willing to pay the extra cost. They suggested the children walk around on the east sidewalk or walk over the snow on the west sidewalk. Mr. Amott has not found other solutions to offer.
- Schoolwide stakeholder survey questions: a survey will be going out to parents. Mr. Amott provided the questions and asked that members look over them and let him know if there are other questions that ought to be asked or taken off or changes in wording.
Other Concerns/Open Forum
Fundraiser: The joint school/PTA fundraiser will be held March 31 this year and will be a Literacy Night capping off a month of literacy activities. There will be a silent auction, activities and a drawing that night. We are interested in donations from businesses and individuals for the auction and drawing. If you know of businesses or individuals that would be willing to donate, please let the school know.

Mr. Cam Amott
- Go Math Year-End Data: 90% of data is in, 88% of students are scoring 80% or higher on math tests. The rest of the data won’t change the percentage much.
- Trustlands Budget: Amount left at the end of the year should be within the allowed amount.
- TSSA 2021-2022 Budged Adjustments: The school received more federal money, so more of the funds went to purchase iPads for 1st & 2nd grades for $19,000. Mr. Amott wrote a grant through the district, which paid for $3500 of that. $3,800 was moved to curriculum materials to purchase Tier II teachers’ reading manuals, which have been borrowed from Wellsville Elementary.
- TSSA 2022-2023: We will be receiving $74,000 next year, about $14,000 more than expected. This will fund 1 more math aide, 4 from TSSA and 1 from Trustlands, making a total of 5. Two aides will be dedicated to 6th grade, and 1 aide in each grade for 1, 2, & 3.
- Student Well-Being Scale Data: This data is not yet available from the district. 6. Back-to-School night next year: We discussed leaving it the same or starting with a group meeting. We decided to have a group meeting at 6 to discuss pick-up/drop-off, attendance, possibly quickly demonstrate PowerSchool, give Ms. Ranee a minute or two and anything else that needs to be covered. Then parents and students visit the classrooms. Suggested having tables with information for PTA, orchestra, after school program, and School Community Council. Other items as needed.
- Improving student attendance: With COVID the last two years, attendance has really taken hit. There are quite a few students who have missed over 24 days of school – a whole month! This has been shown to affect students’ performance long-term. Teachers mentioned the worst ones are not for illness, but usually trips. It was suggested to cover this policy at back-to-school night. Asked if attendance could be talked about more directly with parents and students at conferences, with a PowerSchool report of attendance. Breakfast is an issue with some students. While many students eat lunch in five minutes, certain students spend a long time eating breakfast and come to class late every day. It was suggested that if students were past a certain time for breakfast, to give them a granola bar and send them to class. Another option would be after a certain time to give them five minutes to eat and send them off to class.
Other Concerns/Open Forum
* Nancy asked about the PTA sign-up at Back-to-School Night. She suggested having a contest with some sort of reward for the class with the most parents signed up, such as an ice cream party or something. That worked well for the fundraiser, and Cam was on board with that. * She asked about an appreciation lunch or recognition for those who serve a lot at the school. That has been done in the past, someone thought it often happened the day of field day. The PTA is having an appreciation lunch for all the volunteers on May 18.
Motion to adjourn at 3:45 by Larissa Swasey, 2nd Lisa Taylor, Voting all in favor.

Excused: Janalee Greene, Amber Sorensen, Danielle Yonk, Brittny Amott
